Sleepy Kitty at Conduit

“Conduit is an artist-run art space in a residential neighborhood at the summit of Mount Scott in SE Portland. Conduit functions as an exhibition space; a stage; a garden; a residency; an experiment; a support system; and a collaborative practice.”

A three week residency at Conduit focused on making sleep-related domestic textile goods under the name and muse Sleepy Kitty. Handmade textile objects presented both as funcitonal goods and works of art included a hand tufted rug, a quilt, slippers, sleep masks, a duvet cover, pillow cases, hampers, upcycled fitted sheets, a wallet, and stuffed animals and flowers. An embroidery workshop and an exhibition and sale were hosted by Gillian and Jade Novarino. All photo documentation by Jade Novarino.
Materials included new and recycled fabric, batting, fiberfill, thread, embroidery floss, yarn, pvc, fabric ink and dye, bleach, a snap, velcro, and elastic.
